18.06.09 Whistler BioBlitz (Species photography)
Species photographer for the two-day event. In 2005 the Whistler Naturalists started a Biodiversity project with a list of 436 species known to the area and in 2007 they started the Whistler BioBlitz. As of 2015, this combined effort has documented over 3,800 species, 28% of which were from 9 days of BioBlitzes. The event attracts regional and international experts, across a range of specialized to generalist knowledge. The camaraderie and connections developed over the years has made this a truly special event for the participants. Over the last few years the BioBlitz has moved focus from the Whistler area to Pemberton. There were several presentations for the participants and public, including “The Complex World of Grizzlies and Wilderness” by Wildlife Biologist Bruce Mclellan and “The Aliens Among Us: How Invasive Species Are Transforming the Planet” by Leslie Anthony. It was a rainy couple of days, but the participants weathered the conditions to generate yet more species towards the impressive count. For more information, visit the Whistler Naturalists page:
